RE: Shower Backed Up

Was it just the labels that were wrong or were the valves wrong too, the black tank valve is always larger than the grey tank valve.

RE: About to tow a 24' trailer for the first time

I would contact the rental place to see if they have rental equipment available. You will need to have a weight distributing hitch, sway control and a brake controller, even though you are only travelling a short distance you can encounter a variety of scenarios that will make you glad you have the proper equipment, and it will make the trip safe and more enjoyable. If you had to go out and buy the required equipment you are probably looking at $500 to $600 dollars minimum.

RE: who has a seasonal site?

We moved into our new site as first time seasonal campers April 21st, with the increasing cost of gas and the never ending battle to book weekend camp sites we decided to give seasonal a try. We have traveled all over Canada and the USA for many years and loved every minute of it, for the last 14 years we have travelled to Prince Edward Island for 3 weeks in July which we will miss very much this year, but so far we are loving the convenience of jumping in the car for the hour and a half drive to Campers Cove and unlocking the door and relaxing. We will have a better idea come October if it's for us or not.

RE: Tire date code and towing setup questions

Rob
For the price of a set of new tires it would be well worth the investment, if the tires were indeed produced in 1999 they may look good but I'm not sure I would want to be running them at highway speeds.
As far as a weight distributing hitch, you may not think you need one on a 3/4 ton but the reality is that the purpose is to distribute the weight from the trailer tongue evenly between the front and rear axles of your tow vehicle and not have it all on the rear axle, you will be suprised at how heavy the tongue weight can get with a loaded trailer and supplies in the bed of the truck. Another thing to consider is trailer sway, a good weight distributing hitch with built in sway control can be a life saver.

RE: Hunter Thermostats???

A lot of people use the Hunter thermostats because they are inexpensive and available at Walmart, I have a Noma 52-2593-2 thermostat that I picked up at Canadian Tire on sale for $9.99, the wiring is the same as the Hunter.

RE: Another Question

We have a Rockwood 2304 and it lists at 3550 pounds dry weight I would guess that your Coachmen would be in the 4000 pound range dry weight, but best to weigh it and then you will know for sure.

RE: Do you stop?

I always stop if possible to do so safely, like many others I have stopped to offer assistance when none was really needed (potty breaks etc.) but I have also stopped many times and been able to help someone out. I believe in "Pass It Forward" if someone stops to help you then the next time it's your turn to stop and offer assistance.

RE: propane adapter

Your right on that javaseuf, the table top models that use a screw on disposable bottle normally have the regulator built into the burner control and they would be difficult to modify to operate on the low pressure line on the trailer. My Porta Chef is a 20,000 BTU free standing unit.

RE: propane adapter

CRAMD
Most if not all BBQ's operate on low pressure, they normally have a regulator on the end of the hose to drop the tank pressure down to their operating pressure. To convert my Broil King Porta Chef all that was required was removing the hose with the regulator on the end and getting the proper fittings and a 15 foot hose with the quick connect for the trailers low pressure lpg line. The original hose end regulator on my Porta Chef was a 1/2 pound regulator, if you look at your regulator it will tell you what psi it is rated at.

RE: propane adapter

I am not familiar with the Weber grill or what pressure it requires to the burner, but I have a Broil King Porta Chef and I used to have to take one of the lpg tanks off of the trailer for it which was a pain, I considered the adapter for the tanks etc. etc. and I ended up converting it so it connects directly to the low pressure line on my trailer. Cost about $30 for the 15 foot hose and fittings. Most portable BBQ's operate on about the same pressure of about 0.46 psi after the regulator, my trailers low pressure external lpg connection is about 0.46 psi.

RE: Another Stupid Newbie Question

Most trailer hitches have 2 ratings, one is for load carrying capacity without the use of weight distributing equipment and the other is when used as a weight distributing hitch. Check out the specs on your brand of hitch. I use an Eaz Lift system.

RE: best camp grill

We have both the RVQ which mounts on the side of the trailer and a Broil King Porta Chef, I have converted the Porta Chef over so I can connect it directly to the low pressure lpg line on the trailer. The Porta Chef is a 20,000 BTU grill and it works great, we have had ours now for 9 years with no problems.

RE: Storing hoses

I like the idea of the PVC storage for the sewer hose, I keep mine in the bumper but they get a lot of abarasion from the steel and of course the inside of the bumper is always wet and rusty. Has anyone found anything that will slide into the standard 4" steel bumper and still leave room for the hose ?

RE: Should Tires Weight Rating be Same As TT GVWR?

If you decide to go up to a heavier load range tire be sure the rim is rated for the pressure that the tire may require. I upgraded from load range B tires to load range D which call for 80 psi, after doing some research I found that my rims very only rated for a maximum of 60 psi. I ran those tires at 60 psi for 4 years and they wore very well without any problems. I didn't make it to Labrador but we did put on over 8000 km on a trip to Newfoundland which has it's share of rough roads
